Spring into Autumn

Good evening everyone,

I have been quilting! YIPPEE!

I love this Hi-De-Ho charm pack from Moda so much. Itโ€™s bright and cheerful and this quilt is making me happy every time I look at it. I added Moda Bella Solids in Amelia Lavender for the border, binding and cornerstones plus two five inch squares of each of Amelia Lavender, Sunshine (yellow) and Michael Millerโ€™s Zillion Hearts (pink) to make up six more HST pairs.

The quilting is simple stippling, my favourite to do and also to look at.

These colours are great for wherever you are in the world. In the Southern Hemisphere you are stepping into Spring. Perfect! Here in the Northern Hemisphere we are just into Autumn. Although weโ€™ve had a couple of lovely days of sunshine here, it does get a wee bit gloomy for my liking in Autumn. Finishing this quilt has brightened my autumnal day ๐Ÿ™‚

In the pink!

Hi everyone,

The sun is shining brightly outside but all I want to do is sew indoors. Very strange….but I’m enjoying looking out at the blue sky when I lift my head to refill bobbins ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve continued with the Bargello Trip Around the World theme this week and used up more of those lovely Michael Miller prints. This one is fit for a princess.

ImageIf you are anything like me, these images should conjure up memories of ice cream, candy floss, sugared almonds and dreamy fondant icing on cupcakes.

I think the ivory hearts is my favourite of all these prints. How girly are they?

I’ll be doing some quilting after lunch today and then tonight I’ll be sewing the first part of the new SAL with Claire. The chart is free and the design only requires a small piece of aida (or other fabric of your choice) and some scraps of embroidery floss. I’m sure Claire will welcome you aboard if you want to join in the fun ๐Ÿ™‚ Theย small design is probably just right for a gift card. It uses only cross-stitch and blackwork. Of course, you don’t have to stitch it in black. If it is anything like the previous SALs which Claire has organised, there will be all manner of colours and fabrics used. You can see previous finishes of all the participantsย here.

Whatever you plan to do today, enjoy!

Sew, sew……

Hi to all of my lovely readers and followers of this little blog ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope all is well with you and there is plenty of Easter sunshine for you all to soak up. It is sunny here today in more ways than one.

Firstly, my pink pinwheels now have sashes and borders and the resulting quilt top is now sitting in the box labelled “To be quilted”. I’ve kept it simple and crisp with white, fit for a princess. I have to say, the sunny colours remind me of seaside candy rock, the sort which has the name of the seaside town running all the way through it. I bet that conjures up a few wonderful childhood memories for some of you.

I’ve had fun using all the different prints and rearranging the layout over and over again.

While I do that I can always think about my next project ๐Ÿ™‚

And guess what’s happened in the garden today………

The first daffodil bud has bowed its head in the sunshine! Spring is here, Yay!!

Hopefully you will have fun in the sun this weekend too. You’ll find me at my sewing machine. Don’t want to get sun burn, do I?

I’ve caught the pinwheel bug again!

Good evening everyone ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you are all well!

I’ve got a couple of projects to share with you today.

The first is a whole bunch of pinwheels, twenty four to be precise ๐Ÿ™‚ I started to play around with a few scraps yesterday afternoon and made five pinwheels with different prints. Then, this morning, I was drawn back to my rotary cutter and the Mean Green Sewing Machine. As if by magic, the five became twenty four. I had to stop myself ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m longing for Springtime and the pink is reminding me of the thrift flowers that should, by now, be starting grow on the cliff tops where I live. There is no sign of even the plants let alone the flowers! It is so cold. The crows are usually nest-building in the garden this month and there is no sign of any such activity.

So the pink is to symbolise the Spring we don’t yet have. Hurry up Springtime! We are putting the clocks forward this weekend, British Summer Time ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now, I’m taking you all back to Winter with a woolly hat I’ve just finished for Mum. It is supposed to have a pom-pom but she doesn’t like them so it shall remain pom-pom-less. I made it in a couple of evenings and it is very thick and snuggly. It isn’t meant to be a dressy hat, just one that she can pull on when she needs to pop to the shops. I hope she likes it ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s it for today!

I’m linking with WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced.

Have fun!

Pinwheels in pink!

Happy Monday everyone!

It’s time to show you my latest finish. I made the quilt top a few weeks ago when I made my bags. I split the charm pack called Dogwood Trail by Moda into blues and pinks because I didn’t like them together. The blues plus a few scraps were made into my blue bag and the pink ones plus some white and pink solids were used to make this quilt.

I hope you like it ๐Ÿ™‚

Rain, rain, go away! and four little lovelies!

Hi everyone! Happy weekend to you all ๐Ÿ™‚

Hopefully, if you are celebrating Christmas next week, you will soon be able to put your feet up after completing all of the very necessary preparations ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve had such a busy week that I haven’t been able to think about Christmas as my Mum has had a bit of a flood in her house. We managed to contain it to a tile floored area of the house but there were a couple of inches deep of water which needed constant mopping to fight the latest weather here in the UK. We kept repeating to each other that we were fortunate not to have worse flooding as many homes in the UK have been evacuated for the fourth time since September. Mum is in her 80’s so she has found it all a bit too much to cope with. I don’t remember rain like this in my lifetime. The water table is so high that even a shower is flooding major routes. Today, the rain has been lighter and the wind has changed direction and strength, so we have had time to get outside and put temporary defences in place ready for the next time. We have more heavy rain due over the next few days so fingers are crossed that it stays on the correct side of the doors this time!

I did, however, get time to make the label for an I-Spy quilt for my Great Niece. I made a red one and a blue one last year as we didn’t know whether her Mummy was having a baby girl or a boy. Well, Dani will soon be one year old and she will finally be getting her I-Spy quilt from Santa very soon ๐Ÿ˜‰ I hope she likes it! There are lots of animals and brightly coloured patterns so she can play I-Spy with her parents when she is a little older.

I love the rainbow thread wiggly quilting which shows up so well on the reverse. I think Dani might want to follow the line with her finger ๐Ÿ™‚

The only part I did this week was the label.

And here is the first of my four little lovelies today, ย Dani…..having just found her treat in my sister’s handmade Advent calendar ๐Ÿ™‚

Three more little lovelies delivered by the postie this week are hanging on my Christmas tree. Do you recognise them?

CIMG2226

Well, these two were made and sent to me by Claire in France. You can find many more that she made hereย with instructions on how to make them. ย Her blog is well worth a visit. Claire posts about cross-stitch and many other sewing projects including patchwork and quilting, as well as sharing tales about her cats and dog. There’s something for everyone. Go and see for yourselves.

Do you see the little red berries in the photo above? Two of them have been nibbled by a mouse in my garage where we store the decorations. There was also a pile of sunflower seed husks just outside the box. Looks like little mousie has been collecting from the bird table too!

Last but not least, my final little lovely ๐Ÿ™‚

CIMG2233

This snowflake pinwheel blew all the way from Crete ๐Ÿ˜€ It is the creation of ย Teje who writes a great blog about her sewing projects, knitting and crochet. She is often joined by her assistants, two dogs and a cat. You can find the pinwheels here. The rest of Teje’s blog is full of lovely ideas with beautiful sunny photographs. So if you would like to warm up this winter, pop over for a browse.

As soon as we have a day with some reasonable daylight, I will photograph and post about my latest finished project. Hopefully there will also be some time to sew this weekend.

Thank you for all your lovely comments on my previous scarf post, where you saw my knitting for the first time. I wish you all a wonderful Christmas around the world. Also, I wish for you and your families, a very happy, healthy new year ๐Ÿ˜€

Best wishes,

Just a little giveaway!

Hello to all of my lovely readers ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t quite believe it but this is my 100th post ๐Ÿ˜€

I started this blog on the 28th December 2011 to record the creation of a few crafty projects. It was meant to be a sort of diary/scrapbook for me and my family but has evolved into much, much more! I’ve really enjoyed meeting lots of new friends, even though most of you are in the virtual world as well as finding other blogs out there which are truly amazing!!

To celebrate this milestone, I’ve decided to have a small giveaway.

I must admit, I enter very few giveaways myself. This is usually because the rules for entry amount to a list of “like”and “follow” etc. on various social media sites as well as on the giveaway blog and to post on your own blog about it.

You don’t have to do any of that to win here ๐Ÿ˜€ All I would like you to do is leave a comment to tell me and other readers about the best gift you were ever given. Let us know the occasion (if you wish) and why the gift was so special to you. That’s it! If you then choose to “like” or “follow” my blog or any other social media sites,ย then that is up to you and I really appreciate it, thank you. The winner will be chosen at random by my OH from a list of names in a bowl. The draw will take place on the 3rd of December 2012.

Here is the giveaway prize.

The solids are all by Moda and the prints are all Michael Miller except the purple cats, which is Benartex. The prints are all 10 inches square except the cats which is much larger. The solids are a variety of sizes, perfect for small projects or stash builders. I’ve tried to match the solids with the prints so you can get started on making something nice even if you don’t already have a stash of your own.

Here they are in close up photos.

I do sell all of the above fabrics (except the purple cats) so if you want some, just contact me.

Enjoy the giveaway and good luck!

Come on! Get that quilt finished!!

Hi everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t know about all of you but……my sister who is an amazing crafter is procrastinating!

A couple of years ago, she bought a variety of gorgeous shades of blue fabrics and started to make a Trip Around the World Quilt. She claims to have the four quarters of the top ready to sew together and then the top will be finished. I’m still waiting to see the results. However, in the meantime she has started to make a dress, knitted a beautiful cardigan/jacket and a blanket for her new Granddaughter and also a batik patchwork bag from a kit. The word kit is used very loosely here as the pattern needed to be reworked, there was insufficient fabric in the bag and there was no wadding, tape for the handles or buttons included! OUCH!!

Anyway, her latest excuse is that she is preparing for Christmas. There’s an advent calendar and some Christmas stockings to sew. Next it will be Christmas decorations and table runners……

And look what her granddaughter is getting for Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚ A lovely knitted dolly. Anyone who has ever made knitted toys will know how much work goes into them…..and the stitching up Ugh!!

And from the back…

This doll is about 16 inches tall and she is lovely. Suggestions for names would be most welcome ๐Ÿ˜€

Come on Siss, get that quilt top finished. You are almost there ๐Ÿ™‚

How many UFO’s do you all have? I have one, the sampler I’m busy with he-he ๐Ÿ˜€

Happy weekend!
