Another year over…

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while since I’ve been in the quilting zone. I’ve been concentrating on lots of hand stitching over at Sewing Beside the Sea. I’m sure the quilting bug will find me again when my sewing room warms up a bit. At the moment it is far too cosy in the living room sitting with my feet up, doing a bit of blackwork, cross stitch, knitting and crochet….not all at the same time of course!

I was just updating the “Finished 2013” page above and I can’t believe how many things I managed to complete, especially as it has been such a busy year for me apart from sewing. I’ve enjoyed every single project as well as reading all of the lovely comments and emails from people along the way. Your blogs have been very inspirational too, so I have many ideas stored up for future projects in 2014.

Here is a little gallery of my finished projects this year. Please note that from May onwards, I only included patchwork and quilting projects on this blog. So, if you’d like to see the hand sewn projects from then on, just hop over to Sewing Beside the Sea. If you’d like to visit any of the posts relating to the pictures in the gallery, just go to the “Finished 2013” page above and then click on the photo.

Happy New Year to you all. I hope you have lots of exciting projects lined up for 2014 🙂 Now….where did those chocolates go?

13th April?? No way!!!

Good afternoon to all of my lovely readers from across the globe 🙂 I hope you are all well and having fun crafting or doing what you enjoy most.

I’ve been away for a while and missed you all sooooo much. However, don’t worry……..while I was away I did a lot of sewing YEY! That means I have another finished project to share with you. My Bothy Threads Cut Thru Narrow Boat cross stitch kit is complete.

Image

Now I just need to order a frame and get it up on the wall with the others. I really enjoyed sewing this one as it is densely stitched. There are many thread colours and lots of detail. Bothy Threads kits are lovely to stitch as they include quality fabric and threads and the charts are always very clear.

Image

It’s been fun, fun, fun to make up.

Image

Even though I’ve stitched every single stitch, I’m still finding new things in the picture when I take another look. I like the cartoon appearance of the design.

“What’s happened to the patchwork?” I hear you ask 🙂

Well, I always change the calendar date in my sewing room when I work at the sewing machine. I couldn’t believe the date when I was last in there. It was the 13th of April!!! Not only that, but I hadn’t tidied away or vacuumed the floor last time I finished sewing. I always clean up when I finish a project. What on Earth got into me? So, this morning I got out the furniture polish and cleaned down all the surfaces after putting all of the “stuff” back in its proper place. The floor is now free from threads etc. which is good because the carpet in there is very dark and it shows every speck of muck. So tomorrow I’m going back in there to start something new on the machine. Who knows what it will be……but the green mean sewing machine will definitely get some welly tomorrow 🙂

Also, while I have been away, the little award fairies have been dropping in on me and leaving nominations so I’ll deal with those now. Those of you who know me well, know I like to bend the rules. To be honest, this time I wasn’t going to do that. However, as two awards have landed in my lap almost together, I’ll break the rules just a tad 😉

First up is Angela from Pretty Little Things in a Box. She took part in my blackwork stitch along and has very kindly nominated my blog for this award.

Image

I really like the title of this award as it really does feel like having a virtual family here on wordpress 🙂

Secondly, a big thank you to Jean from Creative Pixie who has nominated my blog for this award called the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award.

Image

As usual, the acceptance of the awards come with their own set of rules. The first award asks you to nominate 10 worthy blogs and the second one requires 14. So, I’m going to nominate a grand total of 13 and split it 7 to 6.

My nominations for the “Being Part of the WordPress Family Award” in no particular order are:

Minerva’s Meanderings

Sew Rosey

Nero’s Post and Patch

Treadle Music

Tinyinc

Rutigt

Claire93

The award rules can be found here.

My nominations for the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award, again in no particular order are:

One Lady and One Dog

Thread Medley

Basildon Kitchens

Made by Patch

Quilt Obsession

Lindashee

The award rules can be found here.

I can certainly recommend all of the above for different reasons. This is quite a mixed bag for you to enjoy!

And last but not least…..

Megan at Lindashee has sent me some photos of the needle case she made by adapting my mug rug tutorial. Not only did she re-invent the pattern to suit her own needs but she also designed and stitched the cross stitch heart on the front cover. Isn’t it fabulous? Thank you for sharing the photos Megan. If anyone else uses the tutorial, please send me a photo. I’d be more than happy to include it in a future post 🙂

So, if you have got this far…..thanks for sticking with me in my absence. It’s always good to read your comments and I really enjoy your emails too 🙂

Now, I’ve got a lot of catching up to do on the Reader.

Back soon!

The finishes are rolling in!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well and having a thoroughly crafty time!

I’m having a bit of a break from blogging but several of the Mystery Blackwork stitch-along ladies have sent me photos of their finished projects, so I thought I’d let you see an update of the gallery.

If anyone else has a photo of their version I’d be pleased to include it in the gallery below. I’ll even put a free link to your blog 😉 Just send them to ohsewtempting@aol.com. Thank you in advance!

I still need to update a couple of photos and I promise to get to work on that very soon!

Mystery Blackwork Stitch Along Part 6 (The Final Part)

Welcome to Part 6, the final instalment of my Mystery Blackwork SAL 🙂

Here is the sixth part completed.

Stage 10

Please respect my copyright.

I hope you have enjoyed stitching along. I know you will have lots of ideas on how to finish your embroidery and I would love to include your final photos in the gallery. Please send them to me as usual for part 6 and of your final finished project.

I have chosen to display my blackwork in a frame after adding a little extra pulled thread embroidery around the edge.

If you have been following the stitch along but didn’t tell us before, please send me a photo of your finished work. It would be lovely to include it in the gallery with all of the others 🙂

CIMG2433

Happy stitching everyone! I’m looking forward to seeing all your lovely ideas 🙂

Who knows, maybe I’ll share another one of my own designs with you in the future…..if anyone is interested.

Take a peep in the gallery before you go!

Playing with my new toy!

Hi everyone 🙂

It has been a while since I’ve been able to do any sewing so I have a little something to share with you all that I’ve kept hidden from view for a few weeks. There’s a time when we are all far too busy to be sewing and blogging so I put this quilt to one side after taking the photos, knowing that there would come a time when my blogging withdrawal symptoms would kick in.

Little did I know that I would be getting a new toy to test when writing this post. You will see that I’ve been playing around with the photo settings, frames and suchlike. You could say I’m a bit new-fangled 🙂

You may remember a few weeks ago that I became addicted to making Trip Around the World Bargello-style quilt tops. If you can’t remember, you can see them here, here, and here.

The blue one is now finished 🙂 I quilted a watery ripple pattern and decided, in the end, to sew on a white binding rather than the blue I’d originally chosen. Here is the finished patchwork top.

The best bit…..the binding. You all know I love to hand stitch the binding, really I do!

Here it is draped over the sofa 🙂

I really enjoyed making this one. I hope you like it too.

You may also wish to take a peep in the gallery of all the lovely black work from my Mystery Blackwork Stitch Along. The stitchers in the group have sent photos of their beautiful work for everyone to see. We are currently on stage five of six.

Thank you to everyone who has sent photos for the gallery and for all of the lovely comments and emails. It’s lovely to hear from you 🙂

Now, all I need to do is the categories for this post and I can publish it. I hope all of the links work. If not, I’ll put them right on the laptop.  Wish me luck!

Have a wonderful crafty week 🙂

STOP PRESS
Jule has spotted an error….
My chart is slightly different to the way I’ve stitched the fans. You can decide for yourself how you prefer to stitch them. As long as all four fans are the same, nobody will know 😉
