Loyal Union Sampler Blocks 96, 97, 98, 99 and 100/121

I’ve got another five blocks from the Loyal Union Sampler finished. They’re all in the book by Jennifer Chiaverini.

This one is called Slave Chain. It’s supposed to be appliquéd but I made my own templates and pieced it instead.I-8 Slave Chain

Second is Spotsylvania Court House. I like the thin frame around the rhombus.

This is Spurs.

Next is Storm at Sea which was very tricky in a 6 inch block!

Last but not least is Summer Nights.

Here’s the virtual quilt so far.

  1. I was always going to love the Storm at Sea best, but the Courthouse one is lovely too.

    • One day I’ll make a quilt with all Storm at Sea blocks. There’s so many options for colour placement the give amazing results.

      • You’re right, I’ve seen some really outstanding quilts with so much movement and colour in them, all made with that one block.

I’m going to have to try a Storm at Sean block because I love the curved optical illusion of all those straight lines! I agree with Kate though: the Court House block is gorgeous!

    • I didn’t expect you to like the Storm at Sea one. I really like illusion blocks.

  4. Despite its name, I love the Slave Chain block! Right now I´m working on a Storm at Sea quilt, but in a bigger size 🙂 It´s a secret gift for one of my nieces, so I cannot show it yet 🙂
